Sunday School

We have a very strong Sunday school program in our church for the last several years.  Lot of our present youth leaders and music leaders of our church had been trained by our dedicated Sunday School teachers.  Sunday School is the heart and soul of a church.  There is no future for the church if you do not have a strong Sunday School Department.  We have about eight Sunday School classes in our church and we have a group of dedicated teachers and a host of substitute teachers.

Purpose:

The purpose of the Sunday School in a church is to educate our Adults as well as the young in God's Word.  To teach everyone what we believe, why we believe and equip each and every believer to stand against the the test of the times, rooted and grounded in God's Word.  I am very happy to say that Lakeland IPC church had been doing a great job in this area the past several years.  Still we have a long ways to go.

Goal:

The goal of the Sunday School of a church is found in 2 Tim. 3:14,&15, "But as for you continue in what you have leaned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you leaned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."

Apostle Paul also admonishes the Churches regarding Sunday School,  what we should accomplish by teaching the Word of God. 2 Tim. 3:16 says, "All Scripture is given by  inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

Challenges:

The main challenge regarding the Sunday School in our church is to start on time in the morning.  Most of the parents have to plan for a four to four and a half hours service on Sundays and therefore they are late bringing the children to the class on time.

Another challenge, like most of the malayalee church Sunday School is, not to have a structured lesson for every week of the year.  Teachers have to prepare the lessons by themselves and most of the time they are either busy during the week or not able to have enough material for the class.  Our church must find a solution to this problem.

Thanks,
Philip K Joseph
Sunday School Director.
